What we do
began operations in Swaziland in May of 2013. All of IMERSE's activities fall under the organization's three goals:
Promote knowledge of mental health and mental disorder in communities and urban areas to create a more caring and supportive society while dispelling common misconceptions about mental illness.
Enhance resilience to life stressors by promoting positive, evidence-based mental health skills to enable people to live more fulfilling lives.
Encourage supportive attitudes towards those living with mental disorders to reduce levels stigma and discrimination associated with mental disorders.
Engage key actors in the development of a mental health policy to provide guidance and resources necessary for effective service delivery.
Support and advocate for decentralization of mental health services so everyone can access these services at their local community clinic.
Collect and publish mental health research that has been conducted locally.
Investigate traditional interventions of mental health to better understand how these treatments can compliment western models.
